    Just got the 2nd issue.
My only comment so far is that on page 19, you have the pic of the Mosin-Nagant & the Lee-Enfield switched.

Also the gun articles are not consistant as far as what is recommended for the survival arsenal(ie pistol over shotgun over rifle). Granted, the authors have differenr opinions, but some consistancy would help.

Thanks for pointing that out, Michael… While I aim to scrutinize every detail of each issue before it goes to press, sometimes under the pressure of deadlines mistakes can slip by. We will print a correction in the next issue.

To address your other comment… If I only published articles from authors who completely agreed with each other on the subject, we wouldn’t have had a gun issue at all… :-)
Even in magazines that are dedicated to firearms, there’s often differing opinions expressed from one article to the next. Ultimately, the decisions that one has to make in choosing the appropriate firearms should be based on an assessment of their personal situation and preferences. There’s really no substitute for “hands-on” experience and research. Just as no one can tell you which type of car or computer is “best” without knowing what your needs or preferences are, the same holds true with firearms. The best you can do is provide the reader with enough information to weigh the pros and the cons and take it from there.

Just picked up the first two issues from a local book store. I like your magazine overall, I do have a couple of comments about building your survival arsenal though.
It is the Mossberg 590, introduced in 1987, that is the only shotgun to pass the U.S. Army’s MIL-SPEC 3443 test. The 590A1 addressed military feedback of the 590.If you only have one firearm and it is a shotgun, get a couple of different barrels to adapt it for different jobs.
I want get into the revolver vs. pistol, but revolvers are not as reliable as you lead people to believe in your article. A high primer will lock up the cylinder and no matter how hard you pull on the trigger it’s not going to move. This is not so much a problem with factory ammo as it is with reloaded ammo. A drop on the side of the firearm can also render it inoperable. A bent ejection rod will cause the same problem as a high primmer and is more common than you might think. This seems to be especially true with the Taurus revolvers. If not cleaned regularly, powder residue can build up under the extractor and cause problems also. When our agency used revolvers I witnessed all of the above during qualification many times.

    Hi Robert,

I thought that the 590 was the only Mossberg to pass MIL-SPEC too, but upon further research, I discovered that both the 500 and 590 have been tested and both are in use by the military. +1 on having different barrels for different applications (I do believe I mentioned interchangeable barrels that in the article).

In regards to the pistol vs revolver argument; I never meant to imply that revolvers don’t require maintenance or can never have problems. Just that they require less maintenance and are less susceptible to problems than a pistol. In my opinion, it’s always better to keep it simple in a grid-down, survival situation.

I just discovered your magazine and have started with issue #5. I have only begun prepping in the last year as a result of several friends who are survivalists. I just ordered a reprint of the first issue, and I am wondering if there will be a reprint of #2? Having enjoyed the publication immensely, I would like to have every issue. This is definitely not bathroom reading – It is valuable reference material that will be referred to time and again.

  5. Ed Says:

    Thanks for the props, Brian…

We may do a reprint of issue 2 if there’s enough demand for it.

  6. Josh Says:

    Hi,

I ordered the #1 reprint as well as #3 and #4 in early December. I will order a subscription tonight in order to get #5 and future issues, but I just wanted to say a #2 reprint would be great. It is so annoying to have all but one in any collection, especially with respect to such an important topic. Thank you.

  7. Gary Says:

    Hi

I ordered issues 1, 3, 5 and subscribed. Please reprint issue #2 or put it online for us to purchase.
    Thank You

Recently subscribed to your magazine. Put me down for reprint of #2. My handguns would be .44mag and .45 acp on either hip.
