Williams, the author of the acclaimed book: "Bug Out" and his latest: "Bug Out Vehicles and Shelters". Ed also talks about the "surreal" experience of shooting for an upcoming survival and preparedness program, airing on the History Channel. Plus he talks about the Ron Paul R3VOLUTION and the shift in his campaign that confused the mainstream media (and some Ron Paul supporters). He also reports on the dehumanizing treatment Nancy Genovese received at the hands of Suffolk County law enforcement for the crime of taking a picture, and he posits the government control structures that are being put in place that have led some analysts to believe the U.S. is on a path to civil war! Then, in the second half of the the show,

For the Japanese people, the Fukushima disaster represents the complete demise of their nation, as literally nothing is being done to contain the thousands of exposed fuel rods that will eventually explode when Reactor 4 fails. But the consequences of all this are not limited to just Japan, as the rest of the world, including the U.S., will bear the brunt of this ticking nuclear time-bomb as well. We are, in fact, already suffering the consequences of this "nuclear war without a war".

Late last year, for example, it was reported that U.S. officials ordered theTokyo Electric Power Company(TEPCO) to release three million gallons of radioactive waste into the Pacific Ocean. Now, according toThe Intel Hub, this waste will soon arrive on the shores of the U.S. West Coast, unbeknownst to the millions of Americans living in that region that will be exposed to it.

This new 'wave' of radiation is, of course, in addition to previous waves that have already killed thousands of people, many of whom were children, and sparked a considerable uptick in cancer cases. And as time goes on, more and more people living in America will begin to develop chronic conditions as a result of perpetual radiation poisoning from Fukushima, and many will die, all while the mainstream media remains willfully silent on the issue.

And the federal government has known all along that the Fukushima disaster is shaping up to be the most severe global catastrophe in recorded history, as was evidenced in a recentFreedom of Information Act(FOIA) request. Not only were federal authorities aware of the extreme dangers posed by Fukushima from the early days of the disaster, but they also orchestrated misinformation campaigns to keep the American people, and the rest of the world, in the dark about the truth.
Since neither the U.S. nor the Japanese governments appear willing to actually deal with Fukushima, and particularly the Reactor 4 situation,NaturalNewsis calling on the United Nations (U.N.) to take swift action. A new petition urges the U.N. to organize a Nuclear Security Summit to address the problem of Reactor 4, and also establish an independent assessment team to somehow stabilize it and prevent its fuel from potentially destroying all life on earth.

You can access that petition here:
This is one of those things. They're called "Teal Panels" (I don't know where the name comes from. They're not teal in color) and they were invented by a guy named Lawrence Drake, who wanted to go camping in a pop-up trailer, but his car couldn't pull the load.

I like unconventional things, and I can see the merit in the small trailer version - The light weight could be an advantage in a bug-out situation - but I don't know about the larger model. There comes a point where you depart the realm of practicality. I've not seen these things disassembled, but the idea of transporting a bunch of panels so you can build a snap-together, plastic fort out in the woods seems like it could be more of a hassle than it's worth.

I have to admit, the cabin does get points for looking like something the away team would set up on a mission to Omicron Theta (there's the geek!), but when I go camping, my first choice is to sleep cowboy-style, under the stars (I could do that out west... Not so much in New England). Otherwise, a tent or improvised shelter is fine for me. The only time I slept in a camper was when I was living in one.

From Gizmodo.com:

As the story goes, Lawrence Drake wanted to go camping with a pop-up camper instead of a tent, but his ride could only tow 1,000 pounds. So to stick it to the 'camping-man' he invented a set of lightweight modular panels that can be assembled just like Lego to create various sized temporary dwellings.

The Teal Panels—which we might point out are in no way teal—assemble using simple screws and a ratchet strap tightened around the entire structure for added stability. The lightweight panels can be assembled on top of a flat bed trailer, sleeping two persons as a DIY camper, or on the ground in a considerably larger cabin configuration topped with a tent roof to keep out the elements.

If the United States were to suffer a nuclear attack, most Americans - especially those outside the cities and therefore most likely to survive - would lack instruments to inform them concerning the changing dose rates from fallout in their immediate vicinity. At present most of hundreds of thousands of civil defense rate meters and dosimeters are kept in cities in storage or in shelters unlikely to survive an all-out attack.

Only a very small fraction of one percent of citizens possess fallout meters, or could obtain meters from private sources during an escalating crisis. The number of conventional fallout meters at present for sale, plus those that could be issued from government facilities during a crisis, plus those that could be produced by factories during an escalating crisis -- all of these together would be entirely inadequate to meet the needs of the tens of millions of individuals who would seek protection from fallout in many millions of separate buildings and expedient shelters.

Nor would radio reports of fallout intensities be of much use to a large fraction of the tens of millions who would survive the blast and fire effects. Many stations would be off the air as a result of blast, fire, and/or fallout effects on station personnel. Other stations would be unable to broadcast because of electromagnetic pulse (EMP) effects having destroyed essential components. In many cases station personnel may go home to their families if the sense of urgency were not communicated by the authorities or if good fallout protection were not available at the station. Furthermore, the fallout dose rates reported from the thousands of radio stations that probably would still be operating after an attack usually would be very different from the fallout dose rates around shelters occupied by survivors listening to the broadcasts.

The Subcommittee on Fallout, Advisory Committee on Civil Defense, National Academy of Sciences, has emphasized the importance of fallout meters in statements including the following: "Visible and tactile indices of fallout would provide valuable warning of danger but any real control of radiation exposure must depend on instruments." In the event of a massive nuclear attack, millions of Americans would, under present circumstances, be killed by fallout radiation because of inadequate shelter. Additional millions would be killed or seriously injured because of a lack of instruments to determine the changing fallout dangers around most shelters. These additional radiation casualties would be caused primarily by the tendency of millions to leave safe but uncomfortable shelters prematurely and by the failure of many to improve their shelters if the fallout exceeded their expectations -- because they would not be able to see, feel, smell, or otherwise learn the magnitudes of the fallout dangers.

Furthermore, if the occupants of shelters do not have fallout meters, some of them, not knowing how large a radiation dose they had received while inside shelter or how dangerous the fallout was outside in their immediate vicinity, may refuse to emerge -- even though they are told by local AM radio broadcasts that the radiation fields have decayed to safe levels. The failure of such prudent citizens to leave their shelters and begin recovery work -- especially the failure of isolated farmers to start cooperating in trucking grain to starving millions -- could result in serious losses. Therefore, for essentially unprepared Americans, there is a need Pi for a homemade fallout meter having the characteristics of the KFM (Kearny Fallout Meter), listed below:

Can be made using only materials and tools found in millions of American homes.

Can be made in a few hours and effectively operated by a large fraction of average, untrained American families -- even if they are guided only by step-by-step, illustrated, written instructions.

Enables gamma dose rates of 0.03 R/hr up to 43 R/hr to be measured with adequate accuracy (t25% or better when made as specified), even by untrained persons guided only by the written instructions.

Has no requirement for the use of a radiation source, either to make, or to calibrate, or to operate the instrument. (The geometry and dimensions of a KFM and the weight of its leaves, as specified in the instructions, permanently establish its calibration.)

Enables the operator to determine easily whether his fallout meter is functioning properly, by merely checking to see that it can be fully charged and that its parts are not bent or out of their specified relationships.

Can be charged and operated reliably and accurately under the humid conditions typical of occupied fallout shelters, and after being carried and exposed without special care.

Has a multi-year shelf life and requires no batteries or other components subject to harmful deterioration if stored unused for years.

As I mentioned earlier this week on my show, the Department of Homeland Security is poised to start a months-long campaign of flooding Boston's subway systems with bacteria in order to test their biological weapons detecting systems. All in the name of fighting terrorism... Who cares if a few people get sick or die? They were unhealthy anyway... right?

They claim that these tests pose no health risks to healthy individuals (the operative term being "healthy"). When asked of the possible repercussions to people with compromised immune systems, they chose not to answer.

This entire operation is unnecessary! I'm sure the government has facilities where they could sufficiently test this equipment without putting a single person at risk. The fact that DHS is willing to roll the dice on the health of even one American citizen is despicable! Nevermind the fact that the only terrorist plots that have been "foiled" in the United States have been set up by the FBI just so they could catch them. Either that, or it turns out that the would-be "perpetrator" is in some way affiliated with the CIA, like the "Underwear Bomber II".

The following from: offgridsurvival.com

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), has announced a series of biological tests that they will be conducting in subway systems near Boston. DHS will be releasing bacteria into the MBTA tunnels, in what they say are tests to evaluate sensors installed in the tunnel system.

The DHS sensors are designed to detect biological agents. The testing is expected to go on for at least one year, with multiple bacteria releases every month.

DHS officials insist that the bacteria release, a dead bacteria called B-subtilis, will have no adverse health risks on healthy individuals. What this means for people with compromised immune systems isn’t known, DHS hasn’t publicly commented on that.B-subtilis is a Gram-positive, catalase-positive bacterium commonly found in soil. Although DHS insists that are no health risks, the EPA fact sheet does show some negative health effects associated with this bacteria.

B. subtilis does produce an extracellular toxin known as subtilisin. Although subtilisin has very low toxigenic properties (Gill, 1982), this proteinaceous compound is capable of causing allergic reactions in individuals who are repeatedly exposed to it.

B. subtilis has also been implicated in several cases of food poisoning (Gilbert et al., 1981 and Kramer et al., 1982 as cited by Logan, 1988).

It goes on to say that in those with compromised immune systems:

Infections attributed to B. subtilis include bacteremia, endocarditis, pneumonia, and septicemia.

According to DHS,(their documents can be seen on the DHS website here)

Several subway systems across the country were considered to host the proposed pilot test. Preliminary discussions were held with a few subway systems, and the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) was considered to be an optimal location due to the extensive chemical simulant studies that were recently performed there.

Most people have no idea if, or to what extent biological hazards are present in their community. This is important information to be aware of when developing your disaster plan. A cursory check will let you know what kind of dangers are present in your local area, so you can plan accordingly.

After the anthrax scare in 2001, Americans rushed out and bought plastic sheeting and duct tape to safeguard themselves at home. Since then we've realized that that technological hurdles to a wide-scale biological attack are higher than originally feared. But that doesn't mean some people still shouldn't be prepared. If you live in New York City or Washington, DC, near the Sears Tower or another high-profile terrorist target, or within about 10 miles of a toxic chemical facility that could be subject to sabotage or an industrial accident, you should think about what you would do to protect your family.

Grading Your Neighborhood

Many people may not even know whether they live near a toxic chemical facility. (It's not like these places do a lot of advertising.) Scorecard , one of the country's leading environmental watchdog groups, runs a great site for concerned homeowners. Just type in your town in the "facility reports" box and you'll get not only the location, but also the entire environmental record, of every such facility in your area.

Know Which Way the Wind Is Blowing

Ideally, you always want to get out of the way of a chemical or biological agent. But whether you have time to flee or which direction you should head is largely a function of the speed and direction of the wind. A few things to remember when plotting your evasion maneuvers:

Listen closely to the what the authorities recommending for you're your particular neighborhood.

Try to triangulate distance of current location of the spill and the speed and direction of the spill. If the spill is 15 miles away and the wind is blowing at five miles an hour, you've got 45 minutes to scram.

When fleeing a spill, always head perpendicular to the direction its moving, and then try to loop back behind it.

When this country was conceived, the states were intended to retain sovereignty as free and independent nation states, which is why state’s rights are protected under the Constitution. These days, the 10th Amendment (as well as other amendments) doesn’t seem to be at all relevant to the federal government anymore, but it takes more than hollering for state’s rights to reclaim any true and sovereignty. States must develop their own infrastructures and systems, and most importantly, stop accepting the federal funding that keeps them beholden to Washington authority. States that do not take vital steps now to protect their independence and solvency will be much more vulnerable and hardest hit when the U.S. inevitably falls into economic collapse. The following is an interesting article that I came across by Brandon Smith from Prepper Podcast Radio News, detailing six steps that states should take to protect themselves from financial collapse:

The states of America are, truly, children of the Constitution. The legal framework that is the foundation of state sovereignty and internal administration is unique for perhaps any country in history up to the moment the U.S. won its independence. States were designed to decentralize and keep in check the power of a subservient Federal Government. They were meant to be the guardians at the gate, the barrier to the formation of oligarchy or outright dictatorship. This, of course, has changed drastically.

The battle over centralized verses decentralized authority and economy has been going on for quite some time, and is undeniably critical in our climate of crisis now, under a government which is bankrupt in every sense and a currency which is on the verge of calamity.

A vast shift in state independence was definitely caused by the reformations of the Civil War, but the progressive erasure of financial sovereignty in the states was really placed on the fast track after the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, when the enforcement of new taxes fueled the establishment machine, including social security (which the government constantly steals from) and the income tax (which does not pay for any state infrastructure), came to life. Now, the Federal Government could borrow fiat money created at will by the private central bank from thin air, and, it could tax the populace to feed the Federal Reserve in a cannibalistic circle of doom. This dynamic has grown our government to a size so massive that it is now forced to monetize its own debt just to survive.

Setting aside the inevitable collapse of the dollar and our economic system as we know it, a considerable goal has been achieved by centralists; with so much free money at the disposal of the Feds, they could wipe away the last vestiges of state sovereignty by simply BUYING state compliance. Through agencies like the EPA, FDA, ATF, etc, 10th Amendment checks and balances are trampled constantly without any regard for local laws or the will of the people, but really, state governments and citizens would be in a far better position to deny such agency intrusions if they didn’t gobble every dollar that D.C. waves in their faces like doggie treats. In our era of tenuous fiscal sop-gaps and imploding economies, the need for Americans, and especially states, to decouple from the Federal Government and the mainstream system is more important than ever.

The following is a step by step method that states could use to accomplish the task of insulation from financial crisis and federal control. Much of it hinges on a willingness by state governments to actually pursue independence, which might seem like a naïve dream to most of us. But, in the wake of a major breakdown, and the fall of the greenback, I believe many states will be seeking a way to weather the storm, if only out of a desire to survive, and this includes walking away from their ties to Washington:

Step 1: Stop Accepting Federal Funding

For states already drowning in debt, this is probably an incomprehensible idea (there is no financial escape for California or Illinois that I can see), but for those states which have some responsibility, and lower debt levels, federal funding is not necessary. Much of the money that the Federal Government collects comes through state cooperation. This money is then handed back to the states through various avenues with strings attached. The rest of the capital D.C. pumps into states is attained through printing; which carries the high price of dollar devaluation and the hidden tax of inflation. The fact is, states are not required by law (yet) to accept federal funds. As long as states do so anyway, they expose themselves to federal influence. As the dollar goes, so shall all those tied to it. States should take a lesson from the Asian bloc nations like China or Japan and begin distancing themselves as far away from U.S. currency and debt as possible. In the long term, those that do will endure. Those that don’t will be drug under the water along with the sinking ship.

Step 2: Enforce 10th Amendment Nullification

Once states are no longer beholden to federal monies, they have more leeway to obstruct intrusions by alphabet agencies and to deny dangerous legislative programs (like Obamacare) which put them at financial risk. Nullification takes many forms, and numerous issues have the potential to become vehicles for the assertion of 10th Amendment rights. One very fascinating political method was devised by representative Phil Hart of Idaho, who used the power to declare emergencies by states themselves to devise a piece of legislation which would allow Idaho to trump Federal and EPA restriction of the local wolf problem. As the bill flew through the legislature, interestingly, Congress delisted the wolf as an endangered species. Obviously, the Federal Government did not want the issue to become a success for 10th Amendment rights, and so defused the situation pulling the EPA back. Essentially, the Federal Government blinked.

This strategy could be used for multiple state conflicts with the Federal Government to effectively nullify their ability to lord over and interfere with specific needs of the people of a particular region. The future economic prosperity of the various states will depend greatly on their ability to take decisive fiscal action without constantly having to ask permission from the feds.

Step 3: Set Up A State Bank

There is certainly some controversy over the idea of a state bank. In the end, any institution can be twisted for devious ends, and a state bank is no different. However, this system has worked well in North Dakota, where a state bank has been in operation for over 90 years. Some from the “left” (whatever that means anymore) often attempt to use the institution as an example of “socialist banking”, which is not exactly accurate, and gives the strategy a bad name. Yes, the bank is state owned, but its purpose is to invest in and encourage free market enterprise within the state, not create a state owned and operated economy.

A state bank would be especially effective in resource rich areas, where a state government can invest in local projects run by local companies which employ local people. This is the opposite of what we see so often today, where international corporate entities are given monopoly over resource development within a state. They siphon away most of the profits and jobs from the region, while the Federal Government thwarts the growth of competing small businesses through concerted taxation and regulation. This goes on because states often do not feel they have the funding capability to encourage local business efforts. The problem diminishes drastically with a state bank, if done correctly, honestly, and with oversight from the citizenry.

The following report from Bloomberg:

Researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey said that for the three decades until 2000, seismic events in the nation’s midsection averaged 21 a year. They jumped to 50 in 2009, 87 in 2010 and 134 in 2011.
Those statistics, included in the abstract of a research paper to be discussed at the Seismological Society of America conference next week in San Diego, will add pressure on an energy industry already confronting more regulation of the process of hydraulic fracturing.

“Our scientists cite a series of examples for which an uptick in seismic activity is observed in areas where the disposal of wastewater through deep-well injection increased significantly,” David Hayes, the deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior, said in a blog post yesterday, describing research by scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey.

‘Fairly Small’ Quakes

The earthquakes were “fairly small,” and rarely caused damage, Hayes said.
He said not all wastewater disposal wells induce earthquakes, and there is no way of knowing if a disposal well will cause a temblor.

Last month, Ohio officials concluded that earthquakes there last year probably were caused by wastewater from hydraulic fracturing for natural gas injected into a disposal well.
In hydraulic fracturing -- or fracking -- water, sand and chemicals are injected into deep shale formations to break apart underground rock and free natural gas trapped deep underground. Much of that water comes back up to the surface and must then be disposed of.

There’s “a difference between disposal injection wells and hydraulically fractured wells,” Daniel Whitten, a spokesman for the America’s Natural Gas Alliance, which represents companies such as Chesapeake Energy Corp. (CHK) and Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. (COG), said in an e-mail. “There are over 140,000 disposal wells in America, with only a handful potentially linked to seismic activity.”

An abstract of the federal study, which was led by William Ellsworth, Earthquake Science Center staff director for the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California, was published online earlier this month. A full version of the study wasn’t immediately available. The area studied included a swath of the country running from Ohio to Colorado and Oklahoma, the study said. “A naturally-occurring rate change of this magnitude is unprecedented outside of volcanic settings or in the absence of a main shock, of which there were neither in this region,” Ellsworth and his colleagues wrote. The Environmental Protection Agency is preparing to release rules on air pollution from gas wells and on the treatment of wastewater. Other state and federal rules could force more disclosure of the chemicals used by the drilling companies. The Interior Department is considering rules to update well-design standards and require disclosure of the chemicals in fracking on public lands.">Read More...
